Obituary for Frank J. Perkins

Frank J. Perkins, 89 of Agawam formerly of Zephyrhills, FL and longtime resident of East Windsor, CT passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center. Frank was born at home in East Windsor, a 14 lb. baby, on February 14, 1933 to the late James and Edna (Smith) Perkins. Having a Valentine’s Day birthday gave Frank attention from the ladies that he so craved. Frank was the youngest of seven children, and the lone survivor; those who predeceased him were James, Edna, Eileen, Elsie, Dorothy, and Myra. He coached little league baseball for several years in East Windsor in the 1970’s and bragged about how his Broad Brook Giants beat the undefeated team coached by his cousin, Wis Wadsworth - the Warehouse Pointers. He retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation at age 55 in the mid 1990’s; married the love of his life, the late Sally Riley, and moved to Zephyrhills, FL to settle into retirement with mini-horses, pigmy goats and chickens. Florida was just what Frank and Sally loved, and they spent many happy years there. Frank is survived by his son, Gary Perkins and his wife, Roxanne of Fort Worth, TX; his daughter, Debra Perkins-Wright and her husband, Theodore of Montgomery, MA; his grandchildren, Michael Kataja and his wife, Ashley of Prospect, CT; Matthew Kataja and his wife, Courtney of East Windsor, CT; Gregory Perkins; Doug Perkins of East Windsor, CT and Megan and Angela Wright of Montgomery, MA. He is also survived by this great granddaughter, Callie Perkins of East Windsor, CT and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 2—4 pm with a memorial service at 4 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Bassinger and Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner Street, East Windsor, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. For online condolences please visit www.pietrasfuneralhome.com.
