Obituary for Joseph Andrew Marek Sr.

Joseph Andrew Marek, Sr., 54, of East Hartford passed away at Hartford Hospital on February 17th, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born at Hartford Hospital on November 13, 1968, son of the late John Robert Marek and the late Margaret Jane (Shearer) Marek. He is survived by his beloved son, Joseph Andrew Marek, jr., of East Hartford; his siblings John, Michael, Lisa, and Kathleen. Joe also leaves behind several other family members including Donna Taylor and husband Mark, Helen Madden; aunts, Diane Mixon and husband Larry, Patricia Burwood and husband, Roger; uncles, Jack, Jim, Jimmy Weber, and several cousins; nephew, Nicholas Taylor; nieces, Sarah and Catherine Marek, and long-time companion, Patricia Gagne. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Jane and father, John; his nephew, Jakob David Wampold; his grandparents, John Michael Marek, Catherine (Roman) Marek, Gertrude Peltier Buteau, and James Buteau.

Joe grew up in Tolland where he spent most of his life and made lots of good, longtime friends and had many great memories he would talk about. He worked at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford. He had a gentle, loving, kind soul and cared deeply for his family and all the people in his life. He had a very special bond with his son. They were inseparable; He would go above and beyond for him, and his family

Joe had a passion for racing and was an avid racing fan from a young age where he and his family spent weekends at Stafford Speedway and other racetracks; he carried that tradition on with Joey. We were all proud and happy for Joe when he got to live out his dream of racing himself this past season at Stafford, where he ended up coming in 12th place at the Stafford Motor Speedway Spring Sizzler. Getting to race was one of Joe's proudest accomplishments.

Joe will be remembered for his fun-loving sense of humor and contagious laugh. He loved his cat, Good Boy and he had a passion for feeding stray cats, the squirrels outside his house, and people in need.

He will be dearly missed by his family and all the lives that he touched

Joe's family would like to thank those who reached out to us in this difficult time with their special memories, condolences and contributions. We also wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at the Hartford Hospital ICU.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 5 to 7 PM with a funeral home service following at 7 PM at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tollland, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to his son, Joseph Andrew Marek, Jr. to help defray the cost of funeral services.
