Obituary for Joseph C. Lindlau

Joseph Charles Lindlau, 90, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2023. He was born August 31, 1932 in Hartford, CT to Charles Lindlau and Anna (Fromherz) Lindlau. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Cressey), daughter Janet (Johnson), son Eric and daughter-in-law Laura Young, his cherished grandchildren Allison, Kelley, Nicklaus, Michael and his wife Jessica (Procaccini), great grandchild Damien, brother Charles and his wife Elizabeth (Parker), nieces Kimberley and Karen. He was pre-deceased by his son Michael.

Joe served in the Army (1950-1952) as part of a tank crew stationed in Germany during the Korean war. He met Carolyn in Hartford and they married on December 3,1960 and moved to Coventry in 1970 where he resided in the same home for 53 years.

He worked at Pratt Whitney and then at Wonder Bakery in E. Hartford for 24 years.

Above everything Joe loved spending time with his family. He never missed a sporting event birthday or graduation. At family gatherings he could usually be found with a Capt. and coke in hand. He was an easygoing man with a quick and often mischievous smile. Generous, kind, always willing to help and a hard worker best describe him. He took meticulous care of his home, yard, cars, tools. Even into his late 80s he could be seen on his lawn mower if no got there soon enough to mow the lawn for him. One of his hobbies was saltwater fishing and he took many memorable trips, his favorites of which were with Nicklaus on board. His final trip he was 89 and still catching fish. Always up for a jaunt to the casino he seemed to grow younger walking in to play his favorite machines. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and together they saw Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Cape Cod, Las Vegas and more.

Truly, not a bad word can be said about our beloved Joe. We will miss him dearly but take comfort his gentle spirit is smiling down on us from above.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Church in Coventry on March 1 at 11:00 am. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Hospice at VNHSC, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon CT.
