Obituary for Nancy Ann Hannon (Kalber)

Nancy Ann (Kalber) Hannon, 89, of Coventry, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023. She was born to the late Albert and Catherine (Robinson) Kalber in Hartford, Connecticut on January 18, 1934.

Nancy was forever optimistic, and she had a naturally joyous personality. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. She also had an intrinsic ability to uncover beauty where it seemed most elusive. And these traits were infectious to everyone that knew her. Nancy could make you feel like the trials of life were mere bumps in the road forging the journey. A visit with Nancy would always assuage an uneasy state of mind and leave you feeling better about yourself and your life in general.

Nancy’s eye for beauty also lent itself well to her artistry. She was, indeed, a wonderful artist from a very young age. Although she created works in a variety of mediums, she was most prolific at rendering her work in oils. On canvas, she created an untold number of paintings of seascapes, cityscapes, landscapes, and portraiture among others. When she passed, she had very few of her own works in her possession because everyone that saw them wanted them, so instead of selling her paintings, she gave them all away to family and friends. Yet, she was delighted to do this because her art made so many people happy.

Nancy was the cornerstone of a large family, which included seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. She loved her family dearly, and she would do anything for them. More than anything else, she was always there to council, encourage, or instruct from a profound wisdom tempered by love.

Nancy is survived by her son Jim Hannon of Coventry; son John Hannon and his wife Cynthia of Ashford; daughter Catherine Hannon of Coventry; son Joseph Hannon of Coventry; son Michael Hannon of Coventry; son Patrick Hannon and his wife Judy of Broad Brook; and daughter Rosemarie Hannon of Coventry. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nancy leaves behind her sister Roberta Davis of Columbia; sister-in-law Mary Hannon of Tolland; brother-in-law David Shea of Colchester; and her sister-in-law Shirley Hannon of East Orleans, MA.

Nancy is predeceased by her husband David J. Hannon; sister Jean Ouellette and her husband Norman; brother James Kalber; brother-in-law John Davis; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Dargati and her husband George; sister-in-law Dorothy (Dottie) Shea; brother-in-law William (Bill) Hannon; and her grandson John Hannon.

Nancy will surely be missed by her family and anyone that knew her well. And her memory will live on indefinitely.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sat., May 13, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Coventry.
