Richard Warren McLaughlin, Jr., 64, passed away on September 6th, 2023 at home in Ellington, Connecticut. Known as Chip to his family and Rich to many of his colleagues and friends, he was a devoted son, caring brother, beloved uncle, godfather and a loyal friend.
He was born on June 10th, 1959 in Boston to Richard W. and Marilyn Slye McLaughlin. He formerly lived in Vernon and South Windsor, Connecticut, as well as New York City, New York. Before he retired, he worked in the insurance industry. He spent his summers enjoying the beach on Cape Cod, especially in Eastham, where he would bring his dog, Mike to walk the shoreline.
Chip was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Marilyn McLaughin. He is survived by his three siblings: Kathleen M. LaCroix and husband Christopher of Vero Beach, Florida, Thomas R. McLaughlin and wife Karen of Radnor, Pennsylvania, Judy M. Lindahl and husband Paul of Eastham, Massachusetts, and his seven nephews and nieces: Caitlin LaCroix, Bridget Lecky, Chris LaCroix, Jr., Emily and Ian Lindahl, Annie and T. Westley McLaughlin. Chip loved his family deeply and completely; and to him, his friends were also his family. He is survived by close friends who supported him unconditionally and to whom the family is most grateful.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Chip may be made to The Richard W. ‘52 and Marilyn McLaughlin Scholarship Fund at Boston College, Office of University Advancement, 140 Commonwealth Ave, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467 or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held October 5, 5p.m. at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
