Obituary for James R. Gwozdz

James Robert “Jim, Jimmy” Gwozdz, 76, of Coventry, CT, beloved husband to Donna (Perazzini) passed away at Manchester Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. He had been living with Parkinson’s disease for 18 years. Jim was born in Holyoke, MA on June 25, 1947, son of the late Michael and Mary (Haber) Gwozdz. Jim grew up in South Hadley, MA and graduated from South Hadley High School and the University of Massachusetts as an aerospace engineer. He went on to receive two Masters Degrees from Rensselaer in Hartford. Jim was an engineer at Pratt and Whitney for 38 years until his retirement in 2008.

He always made an impact on everyone he met and will be remembered for his wit and sincere interest in all those he knew, even throughout his illness. Throughout his life, Jim was an avid hiker and biker. He and Donna even walked the entire South Rim of the Grand Canyon on their honeymoon! There were also many long walks with family and friends at Ogunquit Beach, York Beach, Cape Cod, and the beaches of Florida. He also enjoyed many long walks with his son, Steve, as well as Steve’s dogs.

In addition to his wife Donna, Jim is survived and will be dearly missed by his son, Stephen (Steve), his daughter, Ashley and her husband, Dan, his stepson, Matthew Walsh and his wife Colleen, and his treasured grandsons, Remy, Kaiden, and Brayden Walsh. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Tommy) Carey, his brother, Billy (Karen) Gwozdz and Many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Mike (Marty).
