Obituary for Rita E. Duval

It is with profound sadness and so much love that we announce that Rita E. Duval (St. Onge) passed away at the age of 97 surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 25, 2024 after a short illness. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Fern Duval, she was born in Manchester, NH to William and Mary (Royer) St. Onge on October 22, 1926.

Above all, Rita was dedicated to her family showering with seemingly endless nurturing and love. Her strong faith, compassion and genuine goodness won the trust and hearts of so many whom she touched, forever changing their lives. Accepting of everyone, she never hesitated to help anyone in need regardless of whether she knew them or not. Her wit and ability to make us smile will be forever a part of our most cherished memories.

Rita will be missed by her children, son Richard and wife Sandy, daughter Kathy and husband Lenny Gerardi, daughter Denise and husband Stephen Tucker, son Dan and wife Pam, and son-in-law Terry Bongiovanni; grandchildren, Seth Duval, Justin Duval, Sonny Gerardi, Todd Gerardi, Jay Langley, Nicole Grillo, Ty Bongiovanni, Trey Bongiovanni, Alex Ricciardi, Jacob Tucker, Michelle Willbur, Scott Duval and Emily Duval; 18 great-grandchildren and her sister Lorraine Guyette.

She was predeceased by her loving daughter Eileen Bongiovanni and six siblings Fern Marcoux, Doris Roy, Roger St. Onge, Maurice St. Onge, Robert St. Onge and Jeannette Filteau.

The family wishes to thank her loving caretakers of Home Instead who made it possible for her to live comfortably at home, Mansfield Meals on Wheels who put a smile on her face every morning, and the amazing doctors and staff at Windham Hospital who helped her pass so comfortably and peacefully and provided her family with tender support.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, March 1st at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd. (Rte. 195) Tolland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 2nd at St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel, 46 N Eagleville Rd., Storrs. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
