We are devastated to say goodbye to Sharon (Devanney) Caron a loving wife, mother, soon-to-be grandmother, sister and friend, after she succumbed to a long and hard fought battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
The second daughter of James and Lorraine (Martineau) Devanney, Sharon was a light in the lives of her family and friends. Born in Hartford on August 29th, 1967, Sharon graduated from East Windsor High School, and then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Western Connecticut State University in 1989. Upon graduation Sharon started working for The Hartford, where she held a variety of accounting and finance leadership roles for 29 years.
Sharon leaves behind her husband of almost 30 years Stephen “Steve” Caron; her son Matthew Becchetti Caron and his wife Taylor of Manchester, CT, and daughter Ashley Caron and partner Kevin Kozera of Plainville, CT; her parents James and Lorraine Devanney of Broad Brook, CT; her sister Donna and husband John Berardi of Concord, NC and brother James Devanney Jr. and partner Lindsay Capowich of Avon, CT as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sharon loved spending time with her family and friends, especially vacationing in Cape Cod, attending her children’s sports and dance events, and hosting game nights.
The family would like to thank her caretaker, Gretchen Pfisterer for the phenomenal care she provided Sharon during her battle with ALS, as well as the hospice team at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Sunday, May 23, 2021 between 3pm-7pm at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 10am at St. Bernard Church in Vernon, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Association. For online condolences please visit

Matt Jordan

This is Matt Jordan. I hired Sharon at HIG, Investment Accounting Dept., after her college graduation. A 29 year career in the same department is amazing and worthy of much praise. I remember her as a fast learner, dedicated employee, and a fun loving person, always with a bright ready smile.

She quickly learned, took over, and conquered a new sophisticated area of investments our company embarked upon. She was THE expert.

I am so saddened by her passing at such a young age. I will keep her and her family in my prayers.
